Nonprofit Update March 2024: Events & Funding Opportunities

The San Diego Foundation is putting its money where its mouth is: It's setting aside $10 million to create a scholarship program for high school seniors in the area, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The scholarship program, called the Community Scholars Initiative, will be open to anyone in San Diego County who is in high school at the time of the grant award in 2024.

"We want to make sure that the next generation of philanthropists is prepared to make a difference in the communities they live in," the foundation's executive director tells the Union-Tribune.

"We want to make sure that the next generation of leaders is prepared to make a difference in the world."

The $10 million is just a fraction of the $30 million the foundation says is needed to create the scholarship program, but it's still a big chunk of change for a foundation that has given out more than $100 million over the last decade, the Union-Tribune notes.

"We want to make sure that the next generation of philanthropists is prepared to make a difference in the communities they live in," the foundation's director says.
